The use of essentials is a widespread practice all over the world and has become very common with the public and not just Holistic practitioners. However, there are several factors and features about essential oils that are important to know. Essential oils are like everything else, they affect people in different ways. There are some oils that react one way with one person and present an allergic reaction with someone else or affect their body differently than another person. It’s a contradiction to that popular saying. The contradiction being “what’s good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander”. For example, thyme oil raises blood pressure levels, so if you have issues with hypertension, you should probably not use thyme oil in your essential oil practice. Use of essential oils vary from symptom to symptom. There are oils for calming the nerves, for sleeping, for creating balance, for purifying the air, and the list goes on. The key is to find the right oil for the right symptom and for this, it’s important to do your research among knowledgeable sources such as medical journals, certified health coaches, certified essential oil practitioners and Naturopath Practitioners and doctors. One important factor to remember in doing your research, Google is only a Search Engine not a Research tool. In addition, to conditions such as hypertension, people with conditions such as asthma and COPD should be careful when using essential oils. The important thing to note here is do your research, try it, and if you have a reaction discontinue use. See below some essential tips to practice when using essential oils.
· Consult with your health Practitioner. He or She can give you advice based on your health profile and needs
· Proper dilution. It is important to use a Carrier oil when using essential oils. Carrier oils such as olive and avocado oils are great choices
· Make sure the room or space is well ventilated when using a diffuser. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions
· Monitor how long you have the diffuser on or how long your exposure is without proper dilution
· Remember as I stated above response to essential oils varies from one person to another. So pay attention to how your body reacts
· When using essential oil on the skin, try it on a small area before using it all over the skin
· Observe how your body responds to the oil and consult with your healthcare practitioner if you have an allergic reaction
